Avatar Costumes

Avatar is probably the most popular movie of the year. Every year there are some costumes that stand out in the minds of costume aficionados. Usually these costumes are of characters from a movie or television show that had a particular following that year. Last year was a sort of exception to this rule, as Michael Jackson became the must have costume. The glove and various other accessories flew off the shelves. The King of Pop is still a hot item this year, but Avatar is stacking up to be the top costume for the year. The Neytiri costume is an excellent choice for girls and women and the Jake Sulley costume is perfect for boys and men. The characters in the film are easy to fall in love with and to get into these costumes for the night will bring you that much closer to being these newly iconic creatures.

The world in which Avatar takes place is interconnected and everyone lives in complete balance and harmony. Contribute to this beautiful Utopian ideal by wearing the skin of the peace loving aliens. Man may have been super mean to them, but you can propagate their views in costume! Although I usually have a distaste for films with such an obvious political sub text, this one impressed me and if you don’t appreciate for the story and writing you must at least give credit to the visual effects in the film. Talk about the perfect excuse for buying one of those new 3d tvs!

Nightmare before Christmas Costumes

Nightmare before Christmas Costume

Nightmare Before Christmas is regarded as one of the iconic Tim Burton classics. Is it though? Creatively speaking and stylistically it is, of course, a Tim Burton work. The question is, really, Has Tim Burton taken Thomas Kinkade route with the Nightmare before Christmas? I would argue, marginally, that he has indeed taken-at the very least-a removed approach from the constructive process. He basically slapped his name on a film that bore his name; done in his style. Which is fine when it comes out as well as it did. Nightmare before Christmas is an exquisitely crafted piece of animation that has characters easy to fal in love with. Hence, these characters make excellent costume choices for Halloween. The story does partially take place in Halloween Town, after all.

Jack Skellington is the hero of the fantastic film and the skeleton Pumpkin King is a natural selection for a Halloween costume. His smart and off beat suit, with striped jacket and bat bow tie are so festively Halloween that I can’t imagine a post release holiday without at least one friend dressed as Jack. The female lead is the frankensteinesque Sally. The rag doll type creature is suitably creepy for Halloween. With a secondary character like Sally, you’ll impress all of your film buff friends with your little nugget of pop culture knowledge. Nightmare before Christmas presents a a theme that is at the same time creepy and cute. Decorate your house like Halloween Town and embrace the genius of Tim Burton’s lackeys…

Hellboy Costumes for Halloween

Hellboy Costumes

Hellboy is pretty much a bad ass. I mean he was brought to Earth by members of the N*zi occult. Or so says Wikipedia. To tell you the truth I’ve only recently gotten into Hellboy, but the character is absolutely fantastic. He fights evil around the world with his extra-governmental organization. He is red and demon like, but is a friend of good. He is the type of character that lends itself to be a great costume. Followers of the comic should take an interest in taking to the Halloween in a Hellboy getup. You don’t have to go all out. Just a trench coat, red face makeup and one of costume hellboy hands and you’ll be set to go. Ten minutes set up tops. There are full body Hellboy costumes available, too. For those of you who want to splurge a bit. They’re actually inexpensive costumes, but these days I hear many parents are putting a ten dollar limit on what they’re kids can spend.

Anyway, Hellboy has been pretty popular since he debuted in the early nineties, the character appearing in a number of moives. He makes an excellent costume to Comic Con or a fun one for Halloween. Great idea for a tough Kid’s Halloween costume. Hellboy costumes are here for your enjoyment now, so get out there and raise some…heck! I attempt to keep this blog pg-13 max, so I decided that the character name was corrupt enough. Let loose the red demon inside of you!

Shrek Costumes are so Cool

Shrek Costumes

It’s hard to believe that the original Shrek movie came out in 2001. That’s nine years ago. Crazy how fast time flies. Shrek, which interestingly means Terror in Yiddish, is the Scottish Ogre that travels with Princess Fiona and an Eddie Murphy Voiced Donkey. Designated by the American Film Institute as one of the top ten animated films of all time, Shrek is actually the only non Disney (or their former stooge Pixar) film on the list. The cable television network, Bravo, lists the movie as one of the top 25 funniest films of all time.

The plot centers around the swamp dwelling Shrek, who is being bothered by new inhabitants to his swamp and must go do something about it. The characters of the movie, though, are extensively developed and create an instant connection with any audience. With humor for both adults and children the movie truly broke ground in screen writing for animation. The writers were genius to adapt the book, written by William Steig, into a movie that everyone could enjoy. Shrek was a bestseller, but with the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz-you can’t go wrong. The veteran actors added a lot of believability and depth to already great characters.

Shrek has created some cult characters that can’t be missed in a Halloween costume. Now that the film is about ten years old, any costume from the movie will be less likely to be worn by someone else, making for a more unique costume. Movie costumes are great and Shrek is one of the best films of all time.

Tony Montana Costume

Tony Montana is the the infamous star of the Scarface moive. Scarface, which came out in 1983, is the fictional story of a Cuban boat lift alien turned major Miami drug lord. Based loosely on the original movie Scarface about the life of Al Capone, Scarface of 1983 puts the story in a contemporary theme. The lucrative drug trade made millionaires out of street criminals. Tony Montana is one of them. Famous for his suits machine gun, cigar and massive personal stash of blow, Tony Montana always makes an awesome costume. His character has inspired rappers all over the world and his face has adorned thousands of dorm rooms.

Tony Montana is the ultimate bad-ass. He’s unforgiving, irrational, violet, drug addicted and ├╝ber masculine. He sweats a lot. He smokes and drinks a whole bunch. Not to mention his beyond recreational drug habit. How does that much cocaine even fit up someone’s nose. I guess that’s why it’s a movie. There are a couple of ways you can take the Tony Montana character. You can be the early Tony: cocky and ambitious. Or you can take the later Tony: paranoid and violent. Both can make great costumes. Or start out as early Tony and turn yourself into later Tony…just drink way too much and unbutton an extra shirt notch and you’ll be set to go. C’mon it’ll be fun!

Tony Montana costumes are a favorite for guys every year. Halloween brings out a little bit of the devil in everyone, so embrace it for once!

Matrix Costumes

The Matrix Costumes

The Matrix series began with the premier in 1999. Directed and written by the brothers Wachowski. Starring Keanu Reeves, the immensely popular trilogy involves a future that exists only in the minds of humans. The world’s population is hooked up to a giant machine-matrix-where they are harvested for power to feed the machines that control the earth. Luckily there is still a small underground city of Zion where humans are unconnected to vast computer running the earth. Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, is their last hope and is chosen by the Oracle to save humanity from total destruction by the machines.

The Matrix has some excellent and very recognizable costumes and accessories. Neo’s signature black coat and sunglasses are there for you as is a great Trinity costume. Trinity is Neo’s love interest in the film. A great idea for a couples costume is a Neo/Trinity duo. The movies have achieved something of a cult following outside of their general box office success. The Matrix trilogy set many spiritual themes later adapted by such recent future sci fi flicks as Avatar. The Matrix now rivals the Star Wars series in popularity-we’ll have to wait and see if it endures. The Matrix costumes have been extremely popular since the films debut and should always be considered for Halloween or your next costume party. Also great for comic book conventions.

Whether you want to be Neo or Trinity, The Matrix offers some fantastic costumes that will be noticed by all of your friends. They’re easy too. You can’t miss.

Beetlejuice Costumes are a Classic Halloween Costume

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Since as far back as the 1980s people have been dressing up as their favorite Tim Burton creation, Beetlejuice. Michael Keaton did a straight bang up job as the the world’s favorite unlicensed contractor. Beetle juice is bug covered and rotting since he dided hundreds of years ago from the black plague. Since then, he’s become a sort of disease in and of himself. Cursing those who call out his name three times, Beetlejuice terroizes, manipulates and takes advantage of those he helps. His dry humor is also infectious.

Beetlejuice Costumes

Since Beetlejuice is super creepy, he-of course-is a Halloween costume favorite. Although the film debuted over 20 years ago, it has achieved cult status and is regarded as one of Tim Burton’s masterpieces. The animated sequences of sand worms foreshadow some of his later work including James and the Giant Peach and are also present in brief periods in his earlier film, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. While Pee Wee may be creepy, Beetlejuice is probably a bit scarier. Like in the monster sense.

For excellent Beetlejuice costumes look no farther, there are quite a few to choose from and at different quality and price points. Tim Burton would be proud of these recreations of his dark imagination. To be the extroverted trickster this Halloween, consider some halloween costume makeup to darken the eye area and some white for the face to give you that “dead” look. Different wigs look good with beetlejuice costumes, or just blow out your hair and add some grey or flour!

Beetlejuice [1989] INTRO
by garuhq

Dress up in this fantastic Beetlejuice Costume.

Beetlejuice is an American-Canadian animated television series loosely based on the film of the same name; it aired from September 9, 1989 to December 6, 1991. The television series was produced by Ellipse (France) and Nelvana (Canada) for The Geffen Film Company. It was distributed by Warner Bros. Television. It starred Stephen Ouimette as Beetlejuice and Alyson Court as Lydia Deetz. The music and score for the series was written by Tom Szczesniak, Ray Parker, Jr., and Danny Elfman.

The film and the children’s series weren’t very similar, with Beetlejuice as the antagonist in the movie and the protagonist in the cartoon series. Both are classics from the 80′s though and Beetlejuice is an excellent choice for this Halloween.

Classic cartoon movie and a great costume idea for your daughter, niece, granddaughter or off-beat grandson…Check out this fantastic and inexpensive Tink Costume

From IMDB:
“Based upon Sir James M. Barrie’s 1904 play about the boy who refuses to grow up, the film begins in the London nursery of Wendy, John, and Michael Darling, where three children are visited by Peter Pan. With the help of his tiny friend, the fairy Tinkerbell, Peter takes the three children on a magical flight to Never Land. This enchanted island is home to Peter, Tink, the Lost Boys, Tiger Lily and her Native American nation, and the scheming Captain Hook who is as intent on defeating Peter Pan as he is from escaping the tick-tocking crocodile that once ate a hand of his that Peter Pan cut off–and loved the taste of so much.”
