A blast from the late 80s, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a classic tale that no one forgets. Children love the story and the quality of animation, with scary Ursula giving the kinder quite the fright. Ariel yearns for a life out of the sea with Prince that saved from drowning and turns to the old Sea Witch Ursula to save her and allow her to live with her Prince. It doesn’t really work out as planned, of course, and there are problems that arise involving Ursula wanting to destroy Ariel. The color palette of the film is a fantastic Florida-80s-aqua-teal lending itself to flashy memorable costumes.
The Princess Ariel in the Classic Hans Christian Anderson version of the story longs to have an eternal soul, as all humans-but not merpeople-have. Mermaids live for hundreds of years, but after dying simply evaporate into the foam of the sea. It’s actually a pretty intense story that leaves Ariel a wind spirit for her unsuccessful quest to obtain an eternal soul by marrying her human prince. The Disney version is the preferred version for kids as it isn’t so deep.
The Little Mermaid of the Disney flick has long reddish hair; we have a perfect Ariel Wig to add to your unique costume. Since princesses generally wear crowns there are tiaras especially for the Mermaid princess Ariel. A cute costume for any little girl and what kid doesn’t like wearing a crown! I think I’m going to put in my taped off the Disney channel circa 1992 VHS of the movie now!
