Elvira Costumes

What would Halloween be without an Elvira costume? This Halloween classic is recognizable and very sexy. For a bit of an 80s throwback try out an awesome Elvira Costume for your next costume event. Elvira gained fame back in the late seventies and early eighties for her quirky sex appeal. Sort of a California-girl-Vampire. She had a few movies and a radio show; has hosted horror movie showcases for the last three decades.

The character is played by Cassandra Peterson, who has performed as basically no other character since the introduction of Elvira. She was in the Fellini semi-auto-biographical flick, Roma, in the seventies and was a member of the LA based Groundlings (of Pee Wee Herman Fame), but really what this-now 58 year old-woman is known for is her portrayal of the ever sexy, Elvira. Certainly you want to look your best in your next costume and with form fitting black and tons of make-up how could you possibly look bad? I guess if all goes wrong you can always tell everyone it’s a zombie costume, but the chances of not looking sexy in an Elvira costume are quite slim. Quite slim, indeed.

For a sexy, and now retro, Halloween costume-or costume for any occasion-try out the classic Elvira. Still inviting after all these years, everyone will want to meet the sexy lady in black. Just don’t scare them away with your boring cat stories. I mean, really, who wants to hear about Muffin’s digestive health? I guess maybe that would be interesting at an Animal Shelter fundraiser, but unless you’re at an Animal Shelter fundraiser-or talking to a vet I suppose-dont bring up the cat.

Where was I? Ah yes, the Elvira Costume. A most excellent choice.

Costume Wings and Halos

February 6th, 2010

Costume Wings

Fairy, angel, or demon there is an appropriate wing and halo for you! Wings and halos add an extra more unique element to otherwise more common costumes. By dressing up a more basic costume with a beautiful set of wings can transform you from princess to fairy, or just a pretty white dress into an angel costume. Costume wings and halos are fantastic for school plays and many are perfect for Midsummer Night’s Dream fairy costumes. Be as Shakespeare’s magical creatures and frolic amongst the forest’s trees by the light of the moon! For theater costumes, fairy wings are props that can be used for many years and on the back of many a pretty sprite. Whether Puck, Oberon or Tatania, fairy wings will fit the bill. The wings come in many different styles and at different prices. There are plenty of choices for anyone shopping on a budget and for those looking for a custom professional style piece.

Costume halos are great for sexy angel costumes too. Think of accessorizing a sexy lingerie set with a halo, or dressing up as a risque fairy to spice things up. The possibilities in usage for costume halos and wings are huge. Butterfly costumes are also an excellent use of costume wings. Who, I ask, doesn’t like butterflies? Everyone likes butterflies. See, there, case closed-be a butterfly for your next costume!

Costume Wings and halos are accessories that have many uses and, if cared for, will last for many re-incarnations. Angel costume one year; demon costume the next. Or just wear wings to work for some extra attention!

Mardi Gras Beads and Masks!

February 5th, 2010

Mardi Gras Beads and Masks

Mardi Gras is approaching, don’t be without the mandatory beads and masks! Mardi Gras beads are fantastic for decorating around the house for Fat Tuesday or tossing to the ladies who work for them! Mardi Gras is a night to party and rejoice before the fast of lent. Go out and enjoy yourself with some traditional beads or a very traditional mask. They’ll let everyone know that you mean business and are out to party. Have a few drinks and use the beads as social currency…go out there and make a fool of yourself-it’s one night that it’s forgiven.

Mardi Gras is a big party where everyone is invited. Just get some beads and have a couple big sweet drinks served in tall neon colored plastic containers and forget that you have work the next day. Or take the next day off, it is a holiday! Have some fun this year and celebrate an ancient holiday that still has people wrecking havoc throughout the world. Mardi Gras is celebrated in most Christian countries to some extent, but the Western Hemisphere does it best! From New Orleans to Rio the party is huge, drunk and loud. The streets are filled with people and tradition. This sounds like something most everyone enjoys, get with the program and adorn yourself in beads or go earn some on your own.

Whatever you call it, Mardi Gras or Carnaval, this time of year is one most festive! Enjoy yourselves and be safe!

Beetlejuice Costumes are a Classic Halloween Costume

February 4th, 2010

Since as far back as the 1980s people have been dressing up as their favorite Tim Burton creation, Beetlejuice. Michael Keaton did a straight bang up job as the the world’s favorite unlicensed contractor. Beetle juice is bug covered and rotting since he dided hundreds of years ago from the black plague. Since then, he’s become a sort of disease in and of himself. Cursing those who call out his name three times, Beetlejuice terroizes, manipulates and takes advantage of those he helps. His dry humor is also infectious.

Beetlejuice Costumes

Since Beetlejuice is super creepy, he-of course-is a Halloween costume favorite. Although the film debuted over 20 years ago, it has achieved cult status and is regarded as one of Tim Burton’s masterpieces. The animated sequences of sand worms foreshadow some of his later work including James and the Giant Peach and are also present in brief periods in his earlier film, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. While Pee Wee may be creepy, Beetlejuice is probably a bit scarier. Like in the monster sense.

For excellent Beetlejuice costumes look no farther, there are quite a few to choose from and at different quality and price points. Tim Burton would be proud of these recreations of his dark imagination. To be the extroverted trickster this Halloween, consider some halloween costume makeup to darken the eye area and some white for the face to give you that “dead” look. Different wigs look good with beetlejuice costumes, or just blow out your hair and add some grey or flour!

Barack and Michelle Obama Costume Masks

February 3rd, 2010

Many Different Presidents Available: Presidential Masks

Costume masks are a halloween classic and these two are down right Presidential. Now that President Bush has left office, it’s time to move on to our current leaders. It’s an American tradition to dress up like the President. Whether for parties or protests, people for years have been having a light hearted laugh about our politicians. These Barack and Michelle Obama masks are inexpensive and un-offensive. Playful caricatures of the President and first lady are fun for all sorts of activities. From school plays to tea parties these masks are appropriate and camera ready! Hide your face from MSNBC while mocking fearless leader…well maybe that’s not the best idea, but the masks are pretty funny and within the realm of respect for the President.

Presidential masks really became popular during the reign, err, Presidency of Richard Nixon. California’s only native born resident to become President thus far, had-quite notably-one of the most scandal ridden tenures in the oval office. As a consequence, and the advent of cheap costume manufacture on a mass scale, combined to create the Halloween/UC Santa Cruz classic Richard Nixon Mask. Tricky Dick surely wouldn’t be happy that his masks are still hot sellers, but he’s in good company with former President Bill Clinton-who’s mask (with trademark cigar…) is a perennial favorite.

Whether looking for a presidential mask of the past or the present, there are great choices for you. Cheap too. So, get to the mask shopping and keep thinking those inspirational words, “The healthcare debate will be televised live on c-span…”,err, “Si, Se Puede!”

Costume Hats

February 2nd, 2010

Sombreros, Chinese Cooley Hats, Arab Head Scarfs are just some of the awesome costume hats available. For every costume there is a hat that will make it better. There are alpine caps for German and Swiss costumes. Complete with the green costume feather. Simply fantastic; and such a deal, we must be crazy! Under 7 bucks a piece. Perfect for your lederhosen outfit or just for your everyday yodeling wear.

Now, the Arab head scarf has been a most popular item this year. In fact, this item is relatively hard to find at this price point. For only ten bucks you get a classic Arab head scarf. The costume kufiya differs from the traditional Kufi worn by many Arabic speaking peoples. The kufiya is more the stereotypical scarf with headband to keep it in place. The tradtional kufi is simply a skull cap. The Kufi has a more overt religious significance than the Kufiya, which signifies more the wearers geographic origin than specific religious affiliation. Anyway, the Arab head scarf available is of great quality and can last many uses. It comes in a traditional white color.

Among the other types of ethnic specific hats are French berets in a variety of colors and styles. There are sequined berets that have been popular for theater productions and school plays. Also, Chinese straw farmer’s has and long Chinese braids for added effect.

Dutch girl hats, berets and more: Ethnic Costume Hats

Whether you’re completing a Halloween costume or just need a specific prop, our ethnic hats will be perfect for your needs. The price is right and the selection is awesome. Check out the other costume hats, as well. There are thousands of products.

Costume Weapons Prop Guns

January 31st, 2010

Many times costumes require a weapon for an accessory. You don’t want to carry around the family shotgun-probably a felony in most states-but you need the look of a costume gun or knife to complete your look. Whether it be a military costume or an elaborate ninja blade, there are inexpensive quality costume weapons available. For the crazed gardener look, there is a fake chain saw with a blood curdling sound. The complete psycho look is an excellent choice for a Halloween Costume.

Cheap replica guns swords and more: Costume Weapons

Costume weapons work well as props in theater productions as well. Prop weapons are realistic looking and with tons of choices. There re prop period muskets as well as faux beretta m9s. For more comical needs there are more cartoonish looking prop guns as well. There are also prop swords and knives starting at only a few dollars. For special effects we also recommend the starter pistol for use with blanks, which we also carry. That extra bang sound is great for performances and is very loud. We must offer a word of caution, however. Be careful when using starter pistols and blanks, reading the instructions thoroughly, as misuse can result in harm. Sorry for the buzz kill, but we don’t want you to get hurt!

Prop weapons and Costume weapons are great accessories that add depth to the character you are trying to create. It’s hard to be a knight without a sword, or a policeman without a gun. Don’t be without a complete costume this Halloween or for your theater production. You don’t want to look lazy, do you?

Great Jetsons Costumes

January 30th, 2010

George Jetson Costume, Judy Jetson Costume, Jane Jetson and Astro too: Jetsons Costumes

The Jetsons is one of the most memorable and recognizable cartoons from the 1960s. Only 75 episodes of the origianl series were ever made, with a new version of the Hanna-Barbera classic appearing in the 1980s. The sixties version was a counterpart to the stoneage Flinstones, basically the same story except in the future. The Jetson family lives in futuristic 2062 where the work week has been shortened to 3 hours a day 3 days a week. Society has evolved into a sort of capitalistic dream. Big industrial plants still employ everyone and only one bread winner is needed per household. George Jetson, Judy Jetson, Jane and Elroy live with their dog, Astro, in a condominium complex high in the sky, cruising the skies in flying bubble cars. In a couple of episodes the family employed a robot maid name Rosie. It’s like a Norman Rockwell painting set in the future.

For a retro-futuristic (an oxymoron I realize), maybe nostalgic-atomic-utopia look is better, go for the Jetsons. These days the visions of the future from a more idealistic time will seem ironic and humorous. Whether you’re in need of a George Jetson Costume of Jane Jetson Costume you’ll be impressed. There’s even an Astro costume for your dog. The fabrics for the Jane and Judy Jetson Costumes is nice and shiny, so you’ll grab some attention. Some of them are downright sexy. Not creepy sexy, either. Cool sixties go-go dancer sexy. Anyway, you’ll have fun. Promise.

Cheap Costume Parasols

January 29th, 2010

Big choices in Inexpensive Costume Parasols: Cheap Parasols

Parasols are great for shade and for costumes. Parasols are basically umbrellas that are mostly used for shade as they are not often waterproof. They come in a variety of bright colors. There are red parasols, blue parasols and white parasols among so many others. There are some with lace and some made with paper. Many have a victorian quality to their construction, while others remail distinctly oriental in theme. Parasols are a clown costume essential; there are comedy specific parasols for the zany clowns out there. Or creepy halloween clowns, I suppose. You could spray fake costume blood onto a white parasol for a murderous clown look. I digress.

Parasols are great costume accessories because they are as versatile as they are inexpensive. Parasol prices start at under 8 dollars, so you won’t break the bank with any choice. However, there are more extravagant parasols available. In stock now, many of the parasols have cute ruffled lace detailing. Perfect for any 19th century costume. Even the fancier parasols are pretty affordable, though!

For your costume parasol needs, CostumeShop has you covered. Whether you’re a clown, part of a theater production, or just in need of some cheap shade, there are parasols available to fit your individual need. Southern belle or not, parasols can be part of your next costume. For asian costumes, including kimonos, try adding an oriental style parasol to carry. It will add some originality to the costume. When you’re done, they’re also great for craft projects.
